(Mother and Father? Who even talks like that anymore, does this kid think he's in the 1800's or something?)
Neku really doesn't like the tone he's taking when he says any of that, but really he has no choice but to take the kid at his word. He relaxes just ever so slightly as Joshua withdraws his hand, but he's still very much on guard. Still no way of knowing if this kid is a super powered psychopath or not, after all. He sits through the introduction with his blue eyes burning with hostility, gaze locked with Joshua's.
He snorts derisively as the kid finishes wraps up the explanation, shoving his hands back in his pockets and scuffing at the ground a bit with one worn out sneaker. "Playing superhero? You must not have been watching very closely if that's what you got from all of that." Being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and happening to have super powers was probably the more accurate description of the whole thing.
If only he actually knew just how familiar Joshua was with his tendency to do that.
He pauses for another moment, conceding in a dry tone: "It's Neku."
